God’s Fool

This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful, more joyful, more thoughtful; in a word, more alive. ~ Alice Waters

God’s Fool
With it being Easter AND April Fool’s Day, what better part for us all to play than God’s Fool!  We’ll look at this term in a decidedly different way than in the traditional, or religious sense, mind you, but we might learn a thing or two from St. Francis of Assisi…
We’ll also have our annual Easter Potluck this Sunday – we hope you can join us!
“For God’s sake give me the young man who has brains enough to make a fool of himself!”
~ Robert Louis Stevenson

“Labeled fools to the world are geniuses to the cosmos.” ~ Criss Jami

“It takes more than just awareness for us to change. It takes courage and humility and the willingness to occasionally feel like fools and laugh at ourselves.” ~ Bud Harris

Looking Ahead/Notes of Interest

Sunday, April 1st – We will have our annual Easter Potluck after our regular Sunday gathering.  Affirm great spring weather!  🙂  Bring a favorite dish to share and please remember to bring your own (washable) plates and utensils (our intention is for near zero waste).  We’ll provide cups, cloth napkins and various beverages.

We had another great gathering of harmonious singers at our Singing Circle on Tuesday night!  Our next “circle of song” will be Tuesday, May 1st, starting at 7 pm.  Love offerings to Paths of Heart will be gratefully accepted.

We invite you to visit our website, www.pathsofheart.org. There you’ll find past newsletters, a newsletter sign-up form, more about our organization, a photo gallery, and a ‘donate’ button, for those who prefer to donate to our non-profit with a credit card .  Stop by for a visit and please share with friends!

‘Gratitudes’

Spring has sprung and we are (still!) giddy with gratitude for the multitude of flowers and greenery breaking through the brown leafy mulch!  Colleen’s been busy cleaning up the gardens and discovering more new life.  Enjoy!

“Nature’s beauty is a gift that cultivates appreciation and gratitude.” ~ Louie Schwartzberg

Witnessing Creation

Colleen and Mark’s recent trip to Hawai’i was a powerful and spiritual experience where the evidence of new creation was everywhere!  It inspired awe and reverence and wonder for our planet’s powerful forces constantly at work, seen and unseen.  What inspiration can we draw from earth’s creative flux?

“Between the conscious and the unconscious, the mind has put up a swing:
all earth creatures, even the supernovas, sway between these two trees,
and it never winds down.

Angels, animals, humans, insects by the million, also the wheeling sun and moon;
ages go by, and it goes on.

Everything is swinging: heaven, earth, water, fire,
and the secret one slowly growing a body.
Kabir saw that for fifteen seconds, and it made him a servant for life.” ~ Kabir (Robert Bly, translation)

Making Friends with Death

Author Laura Pritchett will be our guest speaker this Sunday at Paths of Heart.  She will be discussing themes from her recently published book, Making Friends with Death.  Laura broaches this sacred and scary topic with warmth, research, and humor, and helps us greet death as an old friend rather than a spooky stranger.  Myles Sloniker will also be a featured music guest this Sunday.  Also, please note this Sunday is the start of Daylight Saving Time!  Set your clocks AHEAD one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night or you’ll miss out on this thought provoking gathering!

“My position on death?  I’m totally against it.  That said, I concede I will lose that argument and that moreover, there isn’t much of an argument to be made.  Die I will.” ~ Laura Pritchett

“Of all the mindfulness meditations, that on death is supreme” ~ Buddha

“Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.” ~ Rossiter Worthington Raymond

“Death – the last sleep? No, it is the final awakening.” ~ Walter Scott
