Assumptions

You know what they say about when you “assume” something, right?  Well, we’ll tell you this Sunday, if you don’t know!  Frank Bonifazi, who was originally scheduled to be with us last week, has assured us (what a difference one letter makes – ha!) that he’ll be here this Sunday, treating us to a new song and sharing some thoughts, along with Mark and Colleen, on “the assumptions we make about people”.  As always, you are invited to join in on the conversation!

“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.”
~ Isaac Asimov

“Ask if you need to, but don’t assume. Sometimes our bad feelings are only assumptions and speculations doing dark dances in our heads.”
~ Bonnie Lyn Smith

“Assumptions are one of the most limiting aspects of unconscious thinking that we have.” ~ June C. Miller

Flexibility

UPDATE for this Sunday at Paths of Heart!

Hello again!  Alas, shortly after sending out the newsletter for this Sunday, we learned Frank Bonifazi would not be able to join us this Sunday for our “Assumptions” topic after all.  Kind of ironic, huh?!  What to do…what to do?  Well, talk about flexibility, of course!  Life often throws us a curve ball, and we have to “punt” so to speak, or change course mid-stream.  We hope Frank will be able to join us next week, but we’ll remain flexible on that, too and not assume anything till we hear from him…Hope you’ll join us in the flow of things…

We also wanted to take the opportunity while here (since we neglected to in the newsletter!) to thank Terry and Serena Bieritz for a lovely “Oktoberfest” evening, with great food, conversation and Terry’s slide show of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland!  What a fun time!

In the Garden
For those of you on Facebook, you may be noticing the increase in posts and pictures of abundant garden harvesting!  Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is also overflowing with garden goodness.  Several weeks back, our friend, Shannon gave us a big plaque, titled “In the Garden” with fun little sayings like ‘Plant Dreams’, ‘Harvest Love’, ‘Live Life in Full Bloom’…We’ll take a look at all these phrases together and see how we can apply them to our lives.  Gardening really IS the perfect metaphor for life!
We’ll also be having our potluck immediately after our gathering. We invite you to bring something yummy from your garden if you choose!  Of course, anything you bring to share is most welcome.  Remember to bring your own washable plate and utensils, as we aim for zero waste (we do have extras if you forget!).  We’ll provide cups, cloth napkins, and a variety of beverages.  Hope to see you here!

Living in Two Worlds

Mark and Emma Sloniker will lead the discussion this week (Colleen is visiting her sister in Oregon!).  As we experience these “in-between” days of the seasons, transitioning from summer to fall (and experiencing the beauty of both!), we are reminded of the many ways that we live in 2 worlds – one of daily “doings”, the tangible here and now, and the other, a “timeless space of infinite grace”.  Some might call it the “worldly” and the “other worldly”.  Let’s explore these worlds together!

“It seems, something inside us persistently wants to believe in things, unexplainable by words.”
~ Mladen Đorđević

“What you knew in your childhood is true; the Otherworld of magic and enchantment is real…and certainly more real than the factual reality which our culture has built up, brick by brick, to shut out colour and light and prevent us from flying.” ~ Patrick Harpur

“We don’t have the capacity to understand the great mysteries of life and God or no God or infinity, we just can’t get it. It’s beyond us, but that’s fine. We’re not meant to get that. But the pursuit is so interesting…it’s life sustaining and I think when you lose the interest in that pursuit you’re finished.” ~ Paul Simon
