The Importance of Real Connection

The Importance of Real Connection

Last Sunday, part of our discussion led to comments about how there is such a need for people to simply be heard and be seen; to know that their existence has meaning.  Colleen’s sister recently sent her an article by David Brooks entitled, ‘A Nation of Weavers’ where he describes our society’s increasing “lack of healthy connection to each other, our inability to see the full dignity of each other, and the resulting culture of fear, distrust, tribalism, shaming and strife.”  This seemed like a worthy topic to explore further!  Please bring your thoughts and experiences to share.

Quotes to ponder

“It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being.” ~ John Joseph Powell

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” ~ Brené Brown

“We are all so much together, but we are all dying of loneliness.” ~  Albert Schweitzer

Easter Sunday,
April 21st

A Time of Renewal
Happy Easter, everyone!  Did you know that Easter, like so many religious holidays, is one of the most intertwined with pagan symbolism and ritual? Today’s discussion will focus on the themes that Easter time evokes within us – its inner significance of rebirth, renewal, everyday miracles, new beginnings, springtime…
We can all create our own Easter story and celebrate this wondrous time of year!  We’d love for you to share your inner meaning of
Easter.  Emma Sloniker and Judi Lucero will join us in some spirited music this Sunday, also.

Then, please join us afterwards for a special Easter potluck immediately following our gathering.  Paths of Heart will provide a spiral ham, potato salad, a cheese plate, some other Easter goodies, and a variety of beverages.  Please bring a festive dish to share (deviled eggs are always welcome!)  The weather forecast (so far) does not look promising for an outdoor celebration, but then again, we might just experience an Easter miracle!  🙂

“The true meaning of Easter? Find it within and celebrate it. Celebrate all expressions of joy however they manifest. Even if Easter has no meaning to you at all– just another day. Another day is the most beautiful of miracles. Celebrate every minute of it however you feel called to, and allow and rejoice in others however they feel called to celebrate theirs.” ~ Spiritsong

“Some things have to be believed to be seen.”

~ Ralph Hodgson

“In life, we tend to get what we expect. Start expecting the best. Since life is a do-it-to-yourself project, why not believe in miracles? You have the freedom of choice. Why not expect miracles to happen in your life? Make plans, work hard and expect miracles. Why? Because you can.”
~ Mark F. LaMoure

“Springtime inspires us to believe that, along with the earth, we too might change, release the past, and give birth to new ideas.”  ~ Madisyn Taylor

Looking Ahead/Notes of Interest

April 21st ~ We’ll celebrate Easter with a potluck immediately following our gathering.  Please remember to bring your own table service (plates and utensils) as we aim for near  zero waste.  We had hoped for an outdoor celebration, but we’ll see what the weather brings!

Paying it Forward

Paying it Forward is an interesting expression.  While it might mean something a little different to each of us, it usually involves doing good for someone else in response to someone having shown us some form of kindness.  Instead of “paying someone back” we pay it forward.  This can create a wonderful cycle of generosity and kindness in our world.  Bring your stories of paying it forward to share – as givers and recipients!

Teresa Funke will join Mark this Sunday, sharing from her blog posts, and Judi Lucero will join in on the music!

“It takes each of us to make a difference for all of us.” ~ Jackie Mutcheson

“When you learn, teach. When you get, give.” ~  Maya Angelou

Living an Abundant Life
What does “abundance” mean to you?  Some might think directly of money or “things” acquired, but abundance is so much more than that!  It is a mindset that affirms there is more than enough of everything to go around ~ be it love, happiness, time, success, and yes, money and possessions, if that is what you desire.  Paramount to this mindset is also an attitude of gratitude and service, where we are willing to share our abundance and to encourage and celebrate the success of others rather than be threatened by it.  Let’s encourage one another to embrace life’s abundance!

“The essence of life does not consist in the lushness of your possessions, but in the richness of your heart.” ~ Roy T. Bennett“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. This is the law of nature.” ~ Steve Maraboli

“To fill life with abundance, give with love and accept with gratitude.”
