The Healing Power of Music
The past several weeks have been especially divine, sharing music and song with a multitude of different folks, and it reminded us of how healing sharing and making music can be!  Our next Tuesday night Song Circle is coming up on May 1st, and past participants have commented on how good it makes them feel.  Scientific research also confirms the many benefits of music in one’s life.  We’ll explore this topic…with lots of music, of course!  A representative from Mishawaka’s “Mish Initiative” will be dropping by to see first hand what we do here at Paths of Heart and snap a few pictures/videos (let us know if you don’t want to be in them – no worries!).  We were a recent recipient of their Mish’n Booster Grant!  We’ll also have our monthly potluck directly after today’s gathering, complete with Maypole dancing to celebrate the season, led by Elizabeth Hudetz.  Remember, we aim for zero waste at our potlucks so please bring your own reusable/washable table service (plate and utensils) along with a favorite dish to share.  We’ll provide cups, cloth napkins, and a variety of beverages.  The weather forecast so far is grand!!

Music is a lady that I still love because she gives me the air that I breathe. We need all sorts of nourishment. And music satisfies and nourishes the hunger within ourselves for connection and harmony
~ Cat Stevens

“The search for meaning is really the search for the lost chord. When the lost chord is discovered by humankind, the discord in the world will be healed and the symphony of the universe will come into complete harmony with itself.” ~ John O’Donohue

“In the end we shall have had enough of cynicism, skepticism and humbug, and we shall want to live more musically.”
~ Vincent van Gogh

Life According to Jazz

Having 4 visiting improvisational jazz players with us this week got us to thinking.  Life is like jazz – we constantly find ourselves improvising as the next unexpected twist and turn on life’s path leaps into view.  Myles Sloniker, Matt Chalk, and Marko Churnchetz will be our guest musicians this Sunday and will help lead us in a discussion of ‘An Improvised Life’.

Residing in Love

Last week we talked about being God’s Fool.  We can also be ‘fools for love’ ~ again, in a decidedly intentional and conscious way.  What would it take to stay firmly grounded in love ~ in our personal relationships, in our communities, amidst national and world events ~ when we might otherwise be tempted to experience frustration, anger, bitterness, or hate?  We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but together we can explore ways to keep us on the path of love.

“The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.” ~ Brian Tracy

“Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.” ~ Henri Nouwen

“Love is the power to see similarity in the dissimilar.” ~ Theodor Adorno
